Among the strange aspects are 70 of Wyeth’s oil paintings—very exceptional is effective, principally from the 1930s, when he experimented with the medium prior to adopting tempera and watercolor as his most well-liked mediums. These paintings—such as Fox Grass Underneath Adams (1934), currently on watch at the Brandywine—reflect prevalent themes, but their model and tactic exhibit his evolution as an artist more than his complete profession.
