When it will come to drawing, I really like to attract animals and wildlife with pen & ink on toned paper. For watercolor portray, practically nothing beats going outside and locating an attention-grabbing landscape or subject matter from daily life. I also share my art journey on my YouTube channel and web site.

How and when did you get into art?

I have normally liked art and I started out drawing when I was 5 yrs old. I was seriously motivated by Disney animated motion pictures and cartoons and I would draw lots of of the people I viewed. When I was more youthful, I believed I wished to be animator when I grew up. That did not finish up taking place and I didn’t pursue but I’m joyful with the alternatives I’ve built with my art.

How has your practice adjusted around time?

It has improved a great deal more than the several years. I primarily drew throughout my childhood and only at any time attempted portray as soon as I was in college or university. Only then I began to go after portray and artwork a little bit far more severely. I decided to discover watercolor painting but this period lasted about 1-2 decades. I then moved on to acrylics in search of far more bold hues in my perform. I applied acrylics for about 4 yrs in advance of attempting oil painting. As soon as I tried oils, I was hooked. I utilised them exclusively for about 4 many years as perfectly. Inevitably, I determined to choose a journey for portray but I needed a lightweight, small vacation sketching set up and for me, oils didn’t do it, so I started relearning watercolors for plein air portray. Eventually I stopped employing oils entirely and went again to watercolors in which my painting journey began. I also started out working with pen & ink about 2 yrs ago and like it as properly.

I think the best artwork suggestions I have been specified is to simplify your matter. As artists, we really like to observe almost everything all over us and see all the small information. So for me, I generally test to try to remember and go again to simplicity within my operate and my everyday living too. Considerably less is much more. Let the viewer fill in some of the aspects with their creativity. I assume that can make it a lot far more exciting for us and people viewing our function. And it provides us a challenge and some thing to try for.

What’s a person art tip/technique you can share with us that you discover truly useful?

I’ve uncovered that experimenting with my artwork and the procedure is a single of the most effective things to do. For instance, last calendar year I attempted incorporating a splash of watercolors in the background of some of my pen & ink animal drawings on toned paper. This mix truly introduced an entirely new appear to my drawings and opened the door to trying other tactics as very well. Experimentation has served me to evolve with my artwork and my type.

What is your favorite Strathmore paper?

The Strathmore Toned Tan and Toned Grey sketchbooks and papers are my favored to attract on, no doubt. I nearly under no circumstances use white paper any more mainly because the toned paper just will make the process considerably a lot more exciting and effortless.
